Heritage Properties

What properties in the Township of Muskoka Lakes are designated?

Since 2002, four properties have been designated in the Township of Muskoka Lakes. The first two of these cases, the owners approached the township and requested designation as a way of recognizing the importance of their buildings. In both of the most recent designations, the Council of the Township of Muskoka lakes recognized the historical importance and heritage value of two of it's own buildings.

Designation is registered on title in land registry and it carries on even after a property is sold. If subsequent owners wish to make changes to specific elements which were designated, they are required to obtain approval from Township Council.

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport is the Provincial body responsible for Heritage in Ontario.
